Colonel Seneca Galusha Simmons, unknown relationship to John Blair Linn, at the age of 53 years; born in Windsor, Vermont in 1808; son of Alfred Simmons and Deborah Perkins Simmons; graduated from West Point in 1834 and then served in the U.S. Army 7th Infantry, commissioned as Colonel of the 34th PA Regiment (5th Pennsylvania Reserves) in June 21, 1861 and mustered out on Sept. 9, 1861, then commissioned as Major in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry until his death on June 30, 1862 at Charles City Cross Roads, VA; married Elmira Adelaide (1807 – 1885) in 1834; lived in Harrisburg, PA per 1860 census; buried in Richmond National Cemetery (Henrico County, VA); handwritten text of 'Col. S. G. Simmons'
